Her name was Eva…

Friday, June 20th, 2008

I went flying yesterday in JB… mmm… I went pseudo-flying yesterday in JB. An ex-ITE colleague met Cherry and i for lunch one day; demystified some pilot myths and got us all excited. So i tagged along with his students to Nusa Jaya and up i went… at least i don’t have height phobia or claustrophobia. The “co-pilot” explained to me all the controls (it was the 74th time he has repeated to all the students) and let me take control in the sky. Took a little of getting used to but if i decided to go get a private license, it will be quite a hefty sum.

Mmm… another probable student adventure day-trip?

A fren asked me over msn if i ever wanted to be an air-stewardess, the answer was yes. Back in those days, stewardess has a “goddess” status; every man would be proud to be lugging a stewardess in their arms, which explained why kor kor only dated stewardess. He married a stewardess. Everyone at the wedding was like “wow, she is a stewardess”. But as wif all things, everything would have a shelf life.

In retrospect, i thank God for making me 2cm shorter than the required height. I stood grounded and went JC and recieved a proper education.

In the name of research

Had a wii party (codename: training and research) in school when a lot of people went on leave. We went searching for the perfect LT, hooked the wii up and started playing badminton, tennis and who can forget, the guitar hero.

It was so shiok to perform “through the flames and fire” on the big big projector. The audience-who-shan’t-be-named cheered me on. haha… but just before anyone go complaining, the wii party lasted not long and it was really for research. They are looking into some wii-like Flash-based apps for a project.

On a sombre note
Mum asked me what time I would be back at thomson, told her I would settle forrest first before going over at 11.35pm… saw kor’s car parked inside. Went up, saw kor kor in my room, mum came out to say dad went for dinner and pass out blood, almost fainted. Came back, pass out more blood and vomited. But refused to go a&e…. The strongest man who hasn’t fallen sick was suddenly down… just like that. quite a lot of thots raced through my head, my shoulders became very heavy, suddenly i felt lost… and began to pray.

Jean’s Wedding

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Gosh! It’s been two months since i last update. A few ups and downs…

Anyways, I don’t know what’s gotten into me, during one of the lunches, I actually volunteered myself to be the emcee of Jean’s wedding… Chinese one some more. For someone who doesn’t like to be under the spotlight and karaoke singing… I shocked myself when the words came out. My mom asked me not to “sia suay” myself and most importantly not to ruin people’s wedding. She even volunteered to write my script.

And it’s just next week!!! I was warned not to do the emcee’g in johore accent. Haha… God help us…

Mike asked me to wear super high heels. Aiyoh… if not I would have to adjust the mic level everytime it’s my turn to speak.

When Jean gave out her wedding card, a few colleagues asked (naturally) “so when is your turn?”. I only replied them with two words “freedom fighter”.

Zel’s baby

Had a great time chilling out at Zel’s house with great company, beer and ruffles on a nice Sunday afternoon. Andrew and I almost bought adult diapers for her 4-month old Janelle. We concluded we can’t make good parents.

Forrest’ s visit to the vet

Brought ah bui to the vet and when i compared him to the chart, his top, side, and front view fit the overweight category. This fella is almost 6.8kg. Well, the main reason i brought him to the vet was to see if he was asthmatic; he was always weezing when it’s feeding time, so he eats and weezes at the same time.

I sounded like some idiotic irresponsible owner when i asked the vet so many stooopid questions … “er, why does he eat so much? Why does he go to the scratch pole when I open the door? How do we clean his ears? Why is he so lazy?” The vet was kind enough not to offend “maybe your house lacks stimulus” Point taken.

Oh, the nite when ah bui watched Man-U match with me, they lost. So both of us are banned from watching Man-U matches for the champions league.

Things that make me happy

On May 5th, i received 10 packets of pocky; pocky has to be the quickest way to brighten up my day. Each time people asks me what i want, i would say pocky and choc. So when raymond went japan study trip, he got me pocky and choc, Joanne also came back wif pocky from Hokkaido. A student who tried to cheer me up after my lappy charger went missing, bought me pocky & Ruffles :)

I realise comfort food is very important to make a bad day seems a lil better.

And I recently received a “coffee book” documenting the Hong Kong odyssey, proudly made on a Mac. The reason why I blog is to try to remember some stuff coz some memories are getting a lil fuzzy, sometimes they’re in the “third person view”, yet at times I would remember every single word said.

All in all… i’m turning old.

Speaking of Hong Kong, Cec came to visit with Sogo. Did the flyer, caught up wif old friends, ate all the local food that the Singapore Tourism Booklet recommended.

Most importantly, she was here for me.

Not forgetting Yee Fen too… who has accompanied me to work all these years, has to listen to my stories. Thanks babe. But soon she would be off to Melbourne.

Wii Party

Quite a few weekends have been spent with the folks playing wii. Cherry got for me Rayman2, trauma centre, cooking mama etc… it has provided us wif loads of fun. But i was never good at games, my brain doesn’t really control my spastic hands… haha. Gabriel, my “vendor” passed me a stack of games but the best one amongst the stack has to be Guitar Hero. I now can play with 4 keys… a super great achievement for me, i gotta try master “through the flames and fire”. Woo hoo.

Cherry has also gotten her own set… sweet, now we have 4 controllers while playing rayman.

Kor’s bdae

Celebrated kor’s bdae few weeks back and as usual, kids just have their eyes glued to their DS, and the twins running around.

First lesson in photography from his dad…

Kids are so used to digital camera that they can’t look through a viewfinder now.

IND Adventure Trip 2008

I survived again! This trip was initiated by Cherry and we had to bring 34 students on a caving-rafting-hotspring adventure thingy in Ipoh. I had to persuade a couple of students to go and guranteed (plus chop) them that it’ll be super-duper fun. Actually i had my own reservations as well… haha.

The lorry journey there was fun, dodging branches and almost felt like i was Indiana Jones’s sidekick. At first, we were told that the river was a level 2, and capsizing was minimal… but it was raining heavily the nite before. So, after the 1st rapid when i saw students bouncing off the rafts and “bodies” flowing down the rapid… my 1st reaction ” fwah, lucky, it wasn’t me… ” , 2nd reaction “shit! sure kena complain by parents”, 3rd reaction “ok, go and save them”.

After a couple of rapids, my aqua-phobia became worse. Sigh… and i think after 2 times of water rafting, i’ve had enough.

We were very very lucky to be in the same raft as Raymond, Alastair, Alvin and Chron. Zijie would have made the raft too heavy so was replaced by Chron. Cherry got bounced off the raft with Chron trying to save her… it must have felt bad trying to grab onto the slipery rocks. The 4 of us didn’t have it easy also. We were stuck on some boulder trying to wiggle out, with strong current splashing on our faces… and trying to save our team mates when our hands were so tired from rowing.

Still, these heroes are always there for the both of us. Alastair took initiative to take pics for us while caving and rafting, Raymond and Alvin made sure of the team’s safety. I would be always falling back and sitting on Chron’s leg. Not forgetting students who gave us massages when we complained of aches.

Returning to Ipoh town, Benneth’s uncle fetched us for dinner and helped buy “beh teh saw”. So nice. Every group has their own story to tell, eg. how Vanessa flung in front of June, how Raudha’s gang got followed at the night market, how Yaorong needed painkillers for his back, how Randford was hanging on to his life in the rapid etc etc etc.

I think they had fun (and adventure).

Intellectual Property … say no to downloads (?!?)

While we were soaking ourselves in the hotspring (on a hot day), some students back home took up the challenge to teach Sec School kids photoshop. They were so patient and professional. Proud of ya!!!
