Going Block - “goblok”

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Block started last week and it was pretty draining. 1st week was spent instilling the value of punctuality to my students, at times they would tell me “cher… chill” or “wa… morning madness” or “goos fra ba…”

By midweek, i found myself wearing diff shoes to class, shirt torn, dashed past red light camera (still awaiting the ticket), getting that extra 20mins of beauty sleep in the car. And having monologue at the nite class.

Mini fan

In the draining times, still got nice moments la, Juvone found me a ring (which was advised not to wear), class after class of nice students, ranford with his drawing of me during lecture, students getting worried of my singlehood, but most importantly… i got to see my IDOLs!

I watched their concert since I was 20! Zhihua, i wanna learn the violin.

I was happy just being the mini fan that scream from afar… but after their concert… i’ve got the perfect excuse… *pat on the shoulder “errr…. my students would like to take a pic with you” … hahhaa… evil teacher.

Prata party

After 3 months of OSIP, finally managed to bring them to prata for their blogging effort and also FINALLY see the “couple”. Raymond gave me another mighty mugg…. yay!

At night, more prata for supper after talking to cherry at seletar reservior.

The Jazz Fest at chijmes was quite a blast, and meeting Joanne there was such a bonus.

It was good to meet up and drink drink with the folks to take the goblok blues away. If Harry who has 20 over cats say i m rough with Ah bui… i think i really am rough with ah bui. haha…

病向浅中医

So after a week of bad appetite, i decided to go treat myself to a seafood dinner, and then, the whole of this week was spent supressing my vomit in class. Sigh…
A student saw me yesterday and asked “have you vomitted yet?”

There’s something new to learn everyday.

Charles taught me a phrase “病向浅中医”, and so last night, my mom brought me to the doc with my dad waiting for us at the kopitiam.

Today, brought the students to fort canning spice garden and learnt a lot of species of ginger.

If not for the gastric, i prob would be joining sem in zouk for the halloween party. bummer.

The Meet Up

Monday, October 20th, 2008

The co-ordination was impeccable - the flight, the hotel, the schedule. And i was off to meet cec for the first time outside hk.

We met up at the airport and Sogo took over the itinerary for the next few days with his lil red book of must-go, must-see and must-eat.

We were so blessed for the weather as it didn’t rain a drop, not even in 九份 where it rains most days of the month. Typhoon went to hk while we were in taiwan, and typhoon went back to taiwan when we were in hk.

I couldn’t help but to exclaim, “I’m so blessed… and so will you.”

After 5d4n in Taiwan, i arrived in hk, rather missing home. I smsed mummy everyday, telling her where and what I would do. The shopping was good this time, managed to get Star Wars Russian dolls and Xmas stormy. Even Macs was giving out Star Wars toys. Oh, not to forget the glow-in-the-dark playing cards and magnetic sudoku!

The nice people treated dinner everyday and celebrated my bdae with McDull car accessories.
Gimme hk anytime, and i would still sing the song “hong kong… i love hong kong … la la la”.

In denial

We have been talking about it and we finally did it… nerds’ nite! We had a good laugh at each other’s interpretation of the word “nerd”. Guess we must have been the most nerdy when we were in school. We look like some pri school reunion - the principal, the prefect, the irritating student.

Trivia fact: Cherry has been a prefect all her life, Mike has always been the monitor who drew stars (*) next to students’ names who talked. Me, i was never a monitress nor a prefect, but i always dated monitors and prefects.

Guess we were all in denial… haha… we would have nice lunches at ikea and sakae, just to prep ourselves for the new sem. To delude ourselves that the week wasn’t coming to an end, we went to Wine Network to chill-chill, tell jokes - the case of the lost ring and the case of the parking “kor-poon”.

Stoning away, listening to live bands was a good way to release some (undue) stress.

And so the new sem begins … in about 4 hours.
